Comic Review Wednesday
Welcome back everyone,
First of all, I would like to thank you for showing your support and reading today's article. My plan is write an article once a week, hopefully on Wednesdays, where I review a comic that came out during the week. I will occasionally post on other days for different purposes for debates, rants, character appreciation, and etc. Now without further ado, lets dive into the comic of the day
Avengers #675 was released on Jan. 10th, 2017 |
Avengers #675 by Mark Waid, Al Ewing, Jim Zub and Pepe Larraz
About this issue (Warning: Spoilers)
While this issue was not my top pick for the week, it is Marvel's second major event since the beginning of Legacy and I've been looking forward to the event for awhile now. This issue brings together all the current Avengers teams and some other characters who aren't currently on those teams, such as Steve Rogers, Black Panther and Lightning. This large roster of characters are thrown together to protect the world ,once again from an "end of the world" disaster which has caused natural disasters and ultimately, the Earth to be stolen from the universe. Yes, the Earth was stolen and no one knows where it is. Several of the greatest heroes like Spider-man, Vision, and the Champions were also seemingly frozen in time while trying to save the public. (Strangely enough, Captain America was frozen for the second time while under Mark Waid's writing this year since he was frozen earlier this month in Captain America #697) Then just when all the remaining Avengers are gathered at the Mansion and all hope seems lost, Voyager shows up reassuring some of the Avengers.

The Good
My favorite part of this was Pepe Larraz's beautiful artwork. He has the ability to bring such life to the characters, even if they can often be over exaggerated like Rogue's crazy hair or the Scarlett Witch's arm movements on the pages below. However, the action is well paced and wonderfully crafted. With three writers on this project, it still feels very balanced and no character overshadows the others.

The Bad
It seems like Marvel has used the same formula for all of their big events and introduction of characters for the past few years. The formula is, for the most part, some disaster requires all the Avengers to assemble to prevent more loss of life, then someone comes, that we've never heard of but the Avengers have, to save everyone. They did this with the introduction of Sentry, Blue Marvel and several of their past Avengers events. I'm hoping that this won't be the case for the rest of the event since it is supposed to last fifteen issues because this event has had a good start.
Who is Voyager and where was she at all of the other cataclysmic events in the past |
Legacy promised to return their comics to what readers were familiar with and that's kinda what this issue did. Like I previously stated, the basis of the story has been reused and recycled. The introduction of Voyager wasn't anything too exciting especially since supposedly, she is a founding member of the Avengers. However, I'm confident in Mark Waid's ability to develop a great story over the next several issues and Pepe Larraz is the best part of this issue with such beautiful artwork.
My rating: 7.5/10

Good review. Pepe Larraz's art definitely was the best part of the issue. My review was a tad bit harsher because I brought up money and questioned whether it was worth buying but I like your enthusiasm you have and Mark Waid is skilled so that's a plus.
